Surrounded but Victorious

Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. Psalm 27:6

During the Korean War, when the Marines were cut off behind enemy lines and the Army had written the 1st Marine Division off as being lost because they were surrounded by 22 enemy divisions. The Marines made it out inflicting the highest casualty ratio on an enemy in history and destroying 7 entire enemy divisions in the process. An enemy division is 16500+ men while a Marine division is 12500 men.

From that event Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller’s famous quote was birthed, “They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can’t get away from us now!”

David makes it very clear in this verse and the previous ones that he was surrounded and outnumbered by the enemy. In verse 3, he says, “My heart will not fear” If Jesus lives in your heart you must know that fear cannot abide where Jesus is. Jesus is love and love conquers all without ever failing. The enemy may attack our minds and cause fearful thoughts but our heart must overwhelm any attacks of the enemy. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, therefore even if you have thoughts of fear, your mouth should still shout with joy because “He” is in there.

Maybe you feel surrounded and hopeless with issues in your life; your friends and family may have written you off as lost…oh but Jesus…just call on Jesus! Shout with joy because the victory is yours even if it does not appear to be so…He is awesome! If the Marines can believe for an impossible victory armed with only bullets, we my friend can conquer that and much more through the blood of Jesus. The JOY of the Lord is our strength…Smile because you are a winner!
